We were called in to a top London West End Hotel to look at a problem associated with the roof top plant room.
The executive suites were located on the top floor of the hotel immediately below the roof top plant room. The Hotel was extremely busy and four of the suites could not be let due to excessive Noise.
On examination it was found that the Combined Heat and Power Plant within the plant room had not been properly isolated. Structure Borne Noise & Vibration was being transferred from the plant room above to the Executive Suites below.
Access was very limited as pipe work and other equipment had been located around the unit. It was necessary to mount the unit on Spring Mounts, re-route and support the associated pipework with Spring Hangers and fit flexible connections to all the pipe connections on the unit. The cost for the requisite hardware was under £500.00 and had the equipment been selected at the time of the intallation of the unit this would have been the only cost incurred.
The labour associated with the above remedial work and the fact that the plant had to be de-commissioned for two days all resulted in unnecessary costs to the Hotel. Additionally the Hotel lost significant revenue from being unable to let four suites which would almost certainly have been let otherwise.
